These are some of the signs not welcome in the City of Suwanee.

Sign Ordinance
Suwanee’s Sign Ordinance deals with the placement and regulation of certain signs within the municipal boundaries of the City of Suwanee to further the goals of traffic safety, aesthetics, and architectural uniformity for the welfare of all citizens.

For more information, please refer to the City of Suwanee Sign Ordinance, which can be found in the City's Zoning Ordinance. A copy of the sign ordinance can be purchased at City Hall or downloaded as part of the Zoning Ordinance from this website by clicking here. The City’s Code Enforcement Officer can be reached at City Hall, 770/945-7034.

Limitations
Some of the signs prohibited by the City's sign ordinance:

  • signs that imitate traffic signs or signals
  • signs flashing red, amber, or green
  • signs that are attached to any municipal poles or devices, utility poles, trees, rocks, shrubs, or any other natural objects
  • signs within the public right of way
  • portable signs
  • pole signs

Signs advertising historic Suwanee must be approved by City Council.

Fees
Applications for sign permits must be filed at City Hall, 373 Buford Highway, by the sign owner or agent. Fees for sign permits are as follows:

Over 200* $300
   
Special use permit (Temporary sign) $35

*Signs larger than 200 square feet require a variance that must be approved by the Planning and Zoning Appeals Board.

Additional Code Enforcement Services
City of Suwanee citizens who have questions or wish to file a complaint about abandoned or dilapidated houses, abandoned vehicles, or other code violations, may contact Code Enforcement Officer Karen Lide from 8 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday at 770/945-7034. Citizens may be asked to submit a written complaint.
