The City of Suwanee was designated a Better Hometown by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in 2000 and, in 2003, was recognized as a certified National Main Street City. This means that Suwanee receives private and public assistance as it revitalizes its Old Town historic district and works to create a new Town Center that is central to the City's identity and pride as well as its long-term economic stability.
In order to be recognized as a National Main Street community, Suwanee had to meet 10 criteria, including having broad-based community support for revitalization, a comprehensive work plan, and an active board of directors and committees.
