Safe digging begins with you – and it's the law
By law, everyone, homeowners included, must contact Georgia 811 at least 48 hours before beginning any mechanized digging or excavation work on their property. Although the law does not cover smaller, non-mechanized digging projects – such as for a fence, deck, or planting of trees – homeowners are encouraged to notify Georgia 811 to ensure their personal safety and the safety of those around them.
Electronic locate requests may be submitted via the Georgia811 website or by calling 800-282-7411.
Georgia 811 is a nonprofit corporation that promotes public safety and works to prevent damage to Georgia's underground utilities. The organization functions as a communication system between its member-utility companies and professionals and homeowners who are planning mechanized digging activities such as excavation, tunneling, grading, boring, and demolition. The notification system allows Georgia811 members to locate and identify any underground facilities in areas where digging is planned. More information is available at the Georgia811 website.
