On November 9, the City of Suwanee gathered with veterans, families, and community members at Town Center on Main & DeLay Nature Park to dedicate Suwanee’s new Veterans Memorial: Greater Good. This striking 20-foot memorial, created by artist Michael Szabo, honors the service and sacrifice of U.S. veterans, represented by six arcs reaching upward from a water feature—symbolizing the unity and shared commitment of the six military branches.

Mayor Jimmy Burnette welcomed attendees to the event, recognizing the significance of this addition to Suwanee’s growing Town Center Park. The dedication featured an inspiring performance by the Sweet Georgia Brass Band, and the North Gwinnett High School Air Force JROTC, led by Lt. Col. (Ret.) Sonny Kim, presented the colors. Randy Redner acknowledged the Scott Hudgens Family Foundation for their support, and Dr. Lee Martin, retired U.S. Army Colonel, delivered a powerful keynote address. Assistant City Manager Denise Brinson introduced Szabo, who shared personal reflections on the inspiration behind his creation.

Nearly 200 commemorative plaques purchased by community members are installed around the sculpture as part of the memorial. Each plaque honors a veteran, adding a deeply personal connection to the site and ensuring that these individual sacrifices are forever remembered.

“Greater Good stands as a place for all to come together to reflect, remember, and show our gratitude for those who have given so much,” said Szabo.
