The City of Suwanee is proud to be named as a 2026 Visionary City Award honoree, presented by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) in collaboration with Georgia Trend. The award recognizes initiatives that demonstrate thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

Selected in the Medium Cities Category, Suwanee was honored for Town Center on Main, a transformative project that unifies the city’s historic Old Town and Town Center into one connected, walkable downtown. Through the rerouting of Main Street and sustained community input, the project removed long-standing barriers and created new greenspace, pedestrian connections, and gathering spaces.

Larry Hanson, CEO and executive director of GMA, said, “Suwanee’s Town Center on Main shows how intentional design and collaboration can strengthen civic life and downtown vitality. This project brings people together and reinforces the city’s people-centered approach to growth.”

“Town Center on Main has become a centerpiece of daily life in Suwanee and reflects our long-term vision for creating places that bring people together,” Mayor Jimmy Burnette said. “We’re honored by this recognition and proud of what it represents for our community.”
