The City of Suwanee celebrated the reopening of Main Street Park on Saturday, August 1, following a comprehensive renovation of one of the city’s earliest parks.

The park was originally developed in the late 1990s with funding assistance from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and was designed to provide a neighborhood gathering space while recognizing the area’s railroad history.

The renovation began in January and included updated landscaping, a new steel-framed pavilion, additional sidewalks and seating, expanded parking, a new central lawn replacing the former circular concrete and brick plaza, and a completely renovated basketball court.

The mural was completed as a community painting project in collaboration with local nonprofit Art in the Paint, giving residents an opportunity to help put the finishing touches on the renovated park.

The Burnette-Rogers Pavilion continues to serve as a focal point of Main Street Park. Originally dedicated in December 1999, the pavilion honors Minnie Rogers and James Burnette Sr., two longtime Suwanee public servants whose contributions helped shape the community.

City officials, community members, and project partners gathered at the pavilion for the August 1 ribbon cutting, which also featured a performance by Sweet Georgia Brass.

With the renovation complete, Main Street Park once again offers a basketball court, pavilion, open lawn, seating, and passive recreation space in the heart of Old Town. The project preserves the park’s original role as a smaller neighborhood gathering place while updating its amenities for continued community use.

Main Street Park is located at 687 Main Street, Suwanee, GA 30024 and is open to the public.
