When the dogwoods bloom and the azaleas reach their peak, something else begins to appear along Suwanee’s parks and greenway, hidden works of art waiting to be discovered.
The City of Suwanee’s beloved Art on a Limb program returns this May, inviting residents and visitors to explore the great outdoors for a chance to find and keep original pieces of art tucked along the trails.
Since 2004, this award-winning tradition has celebrated both creativity and the natural beauty of our community. Each day in May, two handcrafted art pieces will be hidden throughout Suwanee’s parks and trail system, including the Suwanee Creek Greenway, Brushy Creek Trail, White Street Park, Town Center Park, Town Center on Main, Suwanee Creek Park, and Sims Lake Park. Past Art on a Limb pieces have included fairy doors, clay birds and orbs, gnomes, small canvas paintings, magnets, pottery, bird houses and clay stones.
This year’s featured artist, Ken Leach, brings a splash of coastal inspiration to Suwanee’s trails. A sea-loving retired educator with 37 years of experience including developing Gwinnett County’s oceanography curriculum. Ken now channels his lifelong passion for the ocean into vibrant, coastal-inspired artwork.
Using recycled PVC pipe, Ken transforms everyday materials into stunning sculptures of shorebirds, seahorses, manta rays, hammerhead sharks, and more. Each piece is carefully handcrafted, blending creativity with conservation to create art that’s as sustainable as it is beautiful.
If you’re lucky enough to come across an Art on a Limb treasure, it’s yours to keep! Simply snap a photo of your find and share it by emailing adoherty@suwanee.com or tagging the City of Suwanee on social media.
The more you explore, the more likely you are to uncover a hidden masterpiece and a little piece of Suwanee’s creative spirit.
Enjoy the hunt!
