Suwanee’s Bee City Commitment

BeeCityUSA_Affiliate-Logo_STCK_CYMK-single-1-600x659The City of Suwanee is proud to be designated as a Bee City USA®. Suwanee City Council passed a resolution affirming our dedication to protecting pollinators and building a more sustainable, biodiverse community.

The city has designated certain areas for pollination from bees, butterflies, and moths. Nationwide, there has been a massive decline in pollinators due to destruction of habitat - the city makes a concentrated effort to preserve areas for pollination purposes. The city sows wildflower and perennial seeds in these areas to cultivate the habitat. These areas are no mow zones until the end of March to assure that the songbirds have access to the fodder through the winter. The city sets these Pollination Areas up in non-use areas and hopes to partner with local HOA’s in the future on this project.

Why Bee City Matters:

Pollinators — including native bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects — are essential to the ecosystem. They support over 85% of flowering plants, contributing to healthy environments, food systems, and the beauty of Suwanee’s green spaces.

We also promote the use of Georgia native plants throughout our community.
