The Suwanee Police Department is seeking individuals committed to serving and protecting the City of Suwanee and its residents as police officers. As first responders, police officers are vital to public safety and, under regular supervision, perform basic police services in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the City of Suwanee Police Department and in compliance with governing federal, state, and local laws.

The City of Suwanee provides police service 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays, is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Meet P.O.S.T. requirements for Peace Officer certification and/or academy admittance pursuant to Georgia law; successful completion of Police Academy.

Successful completion of the pre-employment process, which includes oral interview, background check, criminal records and traffic history check, medical and drug screening, psychological evaluation, and polygraph evaluation

Compensation:
Starting at $19.92 hourly ($41,425.70 annualized), negotiable with education and experience considered.

  • All uniforms and equipment furnished by the City.
  • Eligible for Defined Benefit Plan on first day.
  • Eligible for benefits after 30 day waiting period to include: medical/dental/vision, vacation/sick leave.
  • Eligible to participate in POAB.
  • After successful completion of FTO (Field Training Officer Program) receive a take home car (must live within 30 miles of City limits).
  • After successful completion of 12-month probation period eligible for tuition reimbursement.

The City is accepting applications for a FULL-TIME Communications Officer

This position is responsible for receiving messages via radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software; prioritizing messages; and dispatching personnel to emergency and non-emergency situations. The City of Suwanee provides police service 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Shift work - including nights, weekends and holidays-is required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
  • P.O.S.T. Communication Officer, Emergency Medical Dispatch, GCIC Full Terminal certifications, or ability to become certified within one year.
  • Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation:
$17.17 hourly – with full benefits


The City is accepting applications for a FULL-TIME Public Works Crew Member

This position operates assigned variety of equipment and performs manual labor in support of the operation, construction, repair and maintenance of city buildings, facilities, parks, grounds, streets, fleet, equipment, utilities, stormwater facilities, and water systems.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience in maintenance & construction required.
  • CDL, water operator license, further technical or vocational training in HVAC, plumbing, masonry or electrical wiring are desired.
  • Possess or acquire CDL and water operator license within one year.
  • Applicant must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Compensation:
$17.17 hourly (Annualized $35,721.25) – with full benefits


The City is accepting applications for a FULL-TIME Business Services Specialist

This position is responsible for supporting and assisting all business services functions: Alcohol License renewals, Occupational Certificate applications and renewals, Hotel/Motel Tax, Real Estate Tax, and Property Tax and others. Position also conducts onsite visits to local businesses to verify business license compliance. Duties also include clerical duties, front lobby receptionist, and cashier support. This is a fast paced, proficient level customer service position including face-to-face and over the phone contact with customers.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • One year plus of customer service experience.
  • Typing, Microsoft Office, and data entry skills required

Compensation:
$17.17 hourly (Annualized $35,721.25) – with full benefits


The City is accepting applications for a Bailiff

This position is responsible for maintaining order and providing assistance for court operations. The Bailiff will maintain a security presence in the courtroom; prepare the courtroom for scheduled hearings; and enforce courtroom rules of behavior. The Bailiff will call the court to order, provide assistance to the Judge; and act as a liaison with the Clerk of Court for the coordination of the municipal court security. The Bailiff will work alongside the Police Officer assigned to the court.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skilled in the enforcement of security procedures.
  • Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
  • One or more years of progressively responsible related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • No P.O.S.T certification required.

Compensation:
$75 per session; this is a pool position.


The City is accepting applications for Poll Officials (poll workers) for the November 5, 2019 election cycle.

General Qualifications:

  • US Citizen.
  • Resident of Suwanee or Gwinnett County.
  • 16 years of age or older.
  • Able to read, write and speak the English Language.
  • Completed any sentence(s) imposed for any prior felony conviction(s) at least 10 years ago.
  • A poll officer is not eligible to run for public office and cannot hold a public office.
  • Cannot be related to a person on the ballot (i.e., parent, spouse, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, etc.).
  • Able to work Early voting 8 am – 5 pm (3 weeks).
  • Able to work Election Day 6 am until closing procedures are completed.
  • Must attend Poll Official Training.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Compensation:

  • Early Voting $13.00 hourly (3 weeks)
  • Election Day ranges from $100 - $225 for the day
